the powers of instruction

En el epilogo de "Powerful Ideas..", Alan Kay escribe:

> "Creo que lo que realmente falta son adultos que entiendan las

Esto me recuerda a http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Feynman, 
probablemente el único Nobel de Física que se "rebajó" a explicar 
Física básica en sus famosas Lecciones.

Casualmente he ojeado por encima el tercer tomo las Lecciones durante 
mis recién terminadas vacaciones, así que permitidme que divague un 
poco.

  Las "Lecciones Feynman sobre Física" constan de tres tomos: mecánica 
clásica, campos clásicos y mecánica cuántica. Cuando yo estudiaba, 
afortunadamente, sólo entraban en el examen los dos primeros tomos y a 
pesar de eso la Física se me atraganto durante tanto que al final acabé 
siendo un experto (aunque ya prácticamente se me ha olvidado todo 
excepto el pánico nocturno que me producían las enormes formulas sobre 
oscilaciones forzadas y amortiguadas).

En fin, que entonces me quedé con el gusanillo de cómo sería el tercer 
tomo... pero ahora ya puedo decir sin ningún género de dudas que no le 
recomendaría a nadie (que no quiera perder el pelo prematuramente) el 
someterse a exámenes trimestrales sobre esas cuestiones.


Y sin embargo, he estado leyendo dicho librote con placer. El placer 
venía no de la materia en si, sino de comprender mejor el método 
educativo del Sr Feynman.

He sacado la impresión de que los dos primeros tomos no son mas que una 
larga introducción al tercero y que el propio tercer tomo no es a su 
vez sino una introducción a su ultimo capitulo (que no es en realidad 
sobre mecánica cuántica sino sobre campo cuántico) y que empieza 
diciendo:

> "This lecture is only for entertainment"

Y para redondear la impresión, al final también hay un suculento 
epilogo:

> “Well, I’ve been talking to you for two years and now I’m going to 
> quit. In some way I would like to apologize, and other ways not. I 
> hope - in fact, I know - that two or three dozen of you have been able 
> to follow everything with great excitement, and have had a good time 
> with it. But I also know that ‘the powers of instruction are of very 
> little efficacy except in those happy circumstances in which they are 
> practically superfluous’. So, for the two or three dozen who have 
> understood everything, may I say that I have done nothing but shown 
> you the things. For the others, if I have made you hate the subject, 
> I’m sorry. I never taught elementary physics before, and I apologize. 
> I just hope that I haven’t caused a serious trouble to you, and that 
> you do not leave this exciting business. I hope that someone else can 
> teach it to you in a way that doesn’t give you indigestion, and that 
> you will find someday that, after all, it isn’t as horrible as it 
> looks.
> 	Finally, may I add that the main purpose of my teaching has not been 
> to prepare you for some examination - it was not even to prepare you 
> to serve in industry or the military. I wanted most to give you some

Al grano. Le he estado dando vueltas a todo esto y me parece bastante 
coherente, pero me gustaría conocer la opinión de la lista, 
especialmente de los docentes, sobre esa frase tan lapidaria (que yo 
traduciría, quizá demasiado libremente, como: "la eficacia de la 
enseñanza es negligible excepto para aquellos afortunados alumnos para 
los que resulta superflua".
