Dear all,

We realize there has been a bit of confusion and frustration regarding
the webreports mechanism, and we think it is now the right time to clear
things up.

As you recall, our resolution in Lisbon was to go with JSPWiki, making
any essential minor adjustments.  It was agreed that the task of doing
this adjustments would be undertaken by the Swedish team.

After doing some further research, the Swedes have come up with an
alternative system they thought would provide a better platform to build
upon.  This system is called "Plone" (you can read more about it at
http://plone.org/).  They suggested that it might be better suited for
our needs, since it has a larger part of the functionality we talked
about built-in.  After presenting their case to us, we agreed to
investigate this option further together.  We also thought that it would
not be helpful to make any announcements, as anyone who was not involved
in the evaluation process would only be confused.

Jesper, the webreports developer in the Swedish team, spent some time
analysing the project needs and experimenting with ways of supporting
them in Plone.  For the last week he has been in London, intensively
refining prototypes.  We now can say, with a good degree of certainty,
that he can offer us a superior solution over the JSPWiki system we have.

I'm sorry that this has introduced confusion, but all of us here in 
london (gordon,yishay,ken and ourselves) are now convinced that this 
represents the right way forward. In fact, we already have a veresion 
that is not too far from being usable.

Over the next two or three weeks you will all be introduced to the new
system.  For now, let us just mention a few of the main advantages we
find in it:
* WYSIWYG editing of reports (including colour etc), including a 
seamless method of including
TT objects.
* Personal portal - an entry point which leads to "My Reports", "My
Blab", etc.
* Page commenting
* User management: easy registration procedure.
* Multi-lingual support: all menus, and even some of the content, can be
adjusted to the user's language.

Coming soon -
* E-mail notifications of new reports / comments
* Report templates
* Site and Project based navigation: I can easily see "all the members
from my class" and "all reports on EcoLiteracy".

Again, we are sorry about the confusion, and hope everyone will agree it
was worth it.

You will soon (in a matter of days) receive a message explaining how to
enter the system and create your home page.  In two weeks you should be
able to start using this system with your students.
