We discussed this issue in our team meeting today. Given the limited
time Jesper has, we should take care to set priorities right. In the
end, its a cost-benefit issue.<br>
<br>
Obviously, having such data is a valuable asset. On the other hand,
there's a slippery slope here: there's no end to the kind of data you
can ask for. I would like, for example, to have histograms of comments
per report, reports per user, etc. <br>
<br>
There are three other issues to consider. <br>
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The first is, naturally, how much effort is required. If its easy
to do, then sure - we want it. If its not, other things take
precedence. <br>
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The second issue is the availability of workarounds. e.g., there
are 184 published reports today. How do I know? Go to
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.weblabs.org.uk/wlplone/Reports/reports_index_html">http://www.weblabs.org.uk/wlplone/Reports/reports_index_html</a>, copy the
table, paste into Excel, and see how many rows you have. So, maybe we
should define what kind of quantitative data we want, and see how we
can collect it - through system supported tools or by other means. <br>
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The last issue to note is that what is important for some, may be
more or less important for another. In this case, I think that the
usage data is most important for the Portuguese. It is probably less
critical for us.&nbsp; Raquel - perhaps you can lead a discussion with
Jesper, and then share the conclusions with everyone?<br>
<br>
Finally, there are three related items in the task tracker on
SourceForge:<br>
<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?group_project_id=32300&group_id=69492&func=browse">http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?group_project_id=32300&amp;group_id=69492&amp;func=browse</a><br>
<table width="558" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="2"
 height="84">
  <tbody>
    <tr bgcolor="#dad0d0">
      <td><a
 href="http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?func=detailtask&amp;project_task_id=89611&amp;group_id=69492&amp;group_project_id=32300">89611</a></td>
      <td>comments coulmn on report table</td>
    </tr>
    <tr bgcolor="#dadada">
      <td><a
 href="http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?func=detailtask&amp;project_task_id=89609&amp;group_id=69492&amp;group_project_id=32300">609</a></td>
      <td># of reports, members, tools on group page</td>
    </tr>
    <tr bgcolor="#dadada">
      <td><a
 href="http://sourceforge.net/pm/task.php?func=detailtask&amp;project_task_id=89610&amp;group_id=69492&amp;group_project_id=32300">89610</a></td>
      <td># of tools on tools page</td>
    </tr>
  </tbody>
</table>
<br>
<br>
Having these features would address some of the statistics
requirements. It would also improve the quality of the interface: if I
see a report that has 23 comments, I have reason to believe that it is
interesting.<br>
<br>
best,<br>

  <blockquote type="cite">This issue was mentioned as a requirement in
Lisbon, but we neglected it thereafter. I think it is important for
several reasons.
    <br>
    <br>
The requirement is to have some aggregated log of activity on the web
reports site. Specifically, it should show a snapshot at fixed
timepoints (say, once a week) of information such as:
    <br>
- number of reports
    <br>
- number of reports per topic
    <br>
- number of reports per school
    <br>
- number of comments
    <br>
- number of blab items
    <br>
    <br>
This is important both as research data and as design data. In terms of
research data, we want to be able to show, e.g., that as time goes by
people comment more on other's reports. In terms of design, this data
will help us identify were to invest resources; e.g., if no one uses
the blab feature, it should be improved or removed.
    <br>
    <br>
Opinions?
