templates as task sheets

Today we experimented with a new use of templates.

We created a template called "Add 1 quiz" 
(http://www.weblabs.org.uk/wlplone/Members/yish/my_reports/Report.2003-12-18.2548). 
We asked the kids to start a report using that template.  Their report 
was created with several questions and assignments they had to fill in.

First we asked them to fill in their predictions by editing the 
"predict" section.  Then they saved their report, and tested those 
predictions in TT. They uploaded the objects they created in TT to the 
report, to support their claims. Finally, they set the topic to 
"sequences" and published the report.

The kids seemed very happy with this mode of work.  It supported and 
structured (or "scaffolded") their activity, and resulted in a record 
that they new was visible to all partners. They mastered editing and 
uploading objects fairly easily, albeit with a bit of help.

As you can see, they did not complete the last two sections.

It would be great if you could get other kids to comment on these reports.

If you find this approach useful, try it with your groups and share your 
experiences. We might want to enhance the template functionality to 
support this practice better.
