Certainly sounds like a bug: the current buffer should be considered part of the current document even when TeX-master and other variables might be set to strange values. However, the criteria for this have been changed through the versions, so a report (which includes some variable settings and version info) would help in diagnosing a) whether this might already fixed in current versions, b) whether your settings are strange, c) whether preview-latex should nevertheless do something differently. -- David Kastrup, Kriemhildstr. 15, 44793 Bochum
