When I pasted in the usepackage declaration from circ.tex, preview worked better and I could use the pull-down menu without crashing Emacs. (Preview 0.9, AUCTeX 11.55, GNU Emacs 21.3.50.1 (i386-mingw-nt5.1.2600) (nqmacs)). Ciaran Taylor.
