Ok, here is the problem: we should really fix the tarball in a way that if ./configure does not find either Perl or makeinfo, the build/install will _NOT_ change any files (most of that job probably can be done by replacing the executable with ":" in the Makefile variables, as long as they are not used in commands with >something but rather with -outputfile something). That means, of course, that the documentation should be part of the tarball. Does somebody volunteer for a "tarball-ready" or "bootstrap" or similar target in Makefile.in of preview-latex and appropriate changes for dealing with missing or outdated makeinfo or Perl in configure.in? The Makefile target should probably also do most things currently done by ./autogen.sh. -- David Kastrup, Kriemhildstr. 15, 44793 Bochum
