When you load your old database into BBDB 3, it will convert the old
database to the new format.  I'd recommend you make a backup copy of
the old database before converting it, in case anything unexpected
happens.  You cannot take a database in the new format of 
BBDB 3 and convert it to the old format.  However, I am not aware of
anyone who seriously wanted to do that.
