First, I'm unclear if you want to change the folder listing or the
message display itself.

I don't know how to do that for GNUS.

I use mh-e, and I'm sure if I wanted to do that in mh-e for the scan, that
I'd have to do that in mh-e, not GNUS.
mh-e uses MH's scan to form the listing, so it would be rather hard,
requiring some significant amount of code.

If I wanted to change the message display, then the answer might be common
message display code, but not in bbdb itself.
