I do currently have some code that fairly reliably imports into BBDB from a Google contact export file but this is really meant for one time use so not at all what you're looking for. The critical thing for me would be custom fields which are easily accessible from elsewhere in Emacs, especially (in my case) gnus. I have a custom 'language' field so that starting an email allows for automatic setting of an input method by user, so that I'm all set to write in French or German (or even Hawaiian) to specific users. I also have a field that automatically chooses my gnus identity depending on recipient, so I can choose among my home address, business address, or even for very special people my AOL address. Hard or impossible to duplicate outside of bbdb native and gnus. But still you're talking about how BBDB can evolve, and that can only be good. Bob Newell Honolulu
