Aha.  I always wondered why Emacs had this strange capability.  Yes, 
this is just nt-emacs; I've never been able to figure out how to control 
fonts on my other machine (OS X), so I've not tested it elsewhere. 
Well, in any case it's quite useful.  VERY eagerly awaiting rtl arabic 
support in Emacs -
