FWIW, I've just tested PGTK on both the master branch with Emacs 30, and 
copying your example string, or another I typed, into Chromuim 
launchedwith --ozone-platform=wayland. Looks fine.

I haven't tried the full "Recipe to reproduce" - wl-paste is not 
installed here. Are all steps necessary?

The compositor is GNOME Wayland here.
