no response after clicking on a directory

Hey,

I just installed ECB under Ubuntu, but it doesn't seems to respond to
mouse click on directory or file items.

This is the steps I followed:
1. sudo apt-get install ecb, it also installed the related package
cedet and eieic.
2. added lines to the .emacs file,
    (add-to-list 'load-path
	     "/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/ecb/ecb.el")
    (require 'ecb)
3. added source in the Emacs, which leads to the following line in the .emacs
    '(ecb-source-path (quote ("/DATA/sychen/workspace/IPM" ("/" "/"))))

but the ECB simply doesn't respond. please help. thanks.

This is GNU Emacs 22.1.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.12.9)
Ubuntu 8.04- the Hardy Heron - released in April 2008.
