It is good to have a name for the current positions of buffers and windows which is different from "cursor". Buffers exist independently from being displayed. An unselected window might not have a visible cursor. Etc. So I would suggest to keep the name "point" because understanding some parts of Emacs require understanding this concept. Having two words allows better and more nuanced explanations. It is no good idea to make it easier for people by avoiding the word "point". It should be used so that users have a chance to see that they miss something. OTOH I don't have a problem with the word "cursor" being used in the context of an UI feature. In this case it might indeed make the thing easier to grasp. But only if the concept of `point' is not relevant in that case. In sum: No problem here. Emacs has a thing called `point', and it also does display a cursor. I don't think that if someone is overwhelmed by Emacs it is because of this. Michael.
