"Merging patches" is even more confusing.  At least "installing" is
sufficiently vague to be able to include the above interpretation.
"Merging" is simply wrong, unless you are talking about a separate
branch (which is not our case, since we are talking about patches).
And "merging a package" is completely off-mark, IMO.
