I use mu search for Gnus too.  But 
gnus-group-read-ephemeral-search-group was only working in 
gnus-server-mode (bound to G) for me and not in gnus-group-mode 
(where it's bound to G G)...   2025-03-01 22:00 [email protected]:

... until I read this.  Indeed, evaluating the following definition
makes G G work for me:
