That is the cause of many a strange problem. Make sure you get rid of cached stuff that may be in .emacs.d in your home directory, perhaps in eln subdirectories. Totally wipe out /usr/share/emacs, etc. Don't count on 'apt' to clean everything for you. Bob Newell Honolulu
