EWW: initially failed loading of images

Hi. A frequently problem I have in EWW, when loading up Wikipedia pages, is that many of the images do not load. The spot where the image is supposed to be just has a gray box of the correct proportions. However, if I reload this page (eww-reload) then all the images do load.

It seems like what must be happening is that EWW is rendering the page before all of the images have loaded. But I'm not sure what to do to fix this.

Initially I thought it had something to do with the readable mode, but I get the same results with or without using readable. Actually I stopped using readable for WP pages because some of the pages don't render at all.
