User interaction with .emacs when customising variables

When using the customization command via `M-x customize'
to set the value, one can click on the button to Save for
Future Sessions.

Emacs will write the new expression into the .emacs file.
I wonder whether users do actually ever interact with their
.emacs itself when playing the customisations through defcustom.
