I gather Maven is a build system; similar to Ant.

There is also Gradle, now used in Android projects.

I suggest those should be separate projects; jdee2 should provide an API
that they all need, but not try to choose between them.

If it seems appropriate, perhaps jdee2 could provide a common abstract
front-end to all of them, with separate projects providing the
back-ends. That would ease the transition from one tool to another.

The DVC package provides both a core API and a common front end for
distributed CM systems; monotone, git and others.

On the other hand, I'm not sure how much support is needed beyond simple
highlighting and indenting of the build files (xml mode for ant; maven
and gradle mode for those). Running the build is best done from a
Makefile.

Unless you want to get into automatically building project files the way
Android Studio does. While that is useful when just starting to use a
build system, it obscures how the system actually works, so it is hard
to learn all the details.

It seems I have a very different take on these things from most
developers today :(.
