Newbie question

  Dear list,

I have just installed the precompiled AUCTeX 11.86 on emacs 23.2 on MS 
Windows Vista.

I have Miktex 2.8, Ghoscript 9.00.

I added the GS, HOME system variables as suggested in the AUCTeX manual.

I am able to process the circ.tex file obtaining the proper .dvi file.

When I invoke the C-c C-p- C-d

there is a long list of messages that ends with:

the gswin32c -h command tells that pgn16 is supported, and
I have also added the line
(setq preview-image-type 'pnm)
that I have found in some other help site.

While I am writing I have just tried again the C-C C-p- C-p and I have 
obtained (on the circ.tex)
a lot of 'off-limits' signs and the following message
