I saw the same error on "./configure --without-carbon --with-x 
--x-lib=/usr/X11R6/libstatic; make".

mac.o is not be linked when configured --without-carbon (see 
Makefile.in:540)

I think we need not init_mac_osx_environment() nor sys_select()
on non-carbon environemnt. Am I right?
