This is a regression. In every version of Emacs from 20 through 22, `x-pointer-shape' is a defined variable when you start Emacs. On MS Windows, at least, its default value is nil. In Emacs 23 (on MS Windows, at least), evaluating `x-pointer-shape' gives a void-variable error. Debugger entered--Lisp error: (void-variable x-pointer-shape) eval(x-pointer-shape) eval-expression(x-pointer-shape nil) call-interactively(eval-expression nil nil) In GNU Emacs 23.0.90.1 (i386-mingw-nt5.1.2600) of 2009-02-01 on SOFT-MJASON Windowing system distributor `Microsoft Corp.', version 5.1.2600 configured using `configure --with-gcc (3.4)'
