No, I'm afraid not. No browser supports that to the best of my
knowledge.

Thanks for the help Peter. Actually, it turns out that Syd Bauman's
reply was the best way to do this -- that is, to customize
sgml-custom-markup. That also provided a solution for an easy way to
insert the xhtml xmlns attribute with the correct value.
