My idea was that since psgml has already consulted any catalogs and extracted the necessary information (has resolved a public identifier to a system identifer, for instance), it should be possible to share it. Besides, the idea is to have a function that works "transparently", i.e. irrespective of whether a catalog is used or not (although, of course, the usefulness is more obvious to me when the instance specifies only public identifiers). Even more compelling, of course, would be something like (sgml-modify-definition-of-element), but I'm doubtful whether sgml-dtd-info contains information about which element definition is made in which file. I'll see. One might, of course, object that such functions lead to undisciplined and chaotic DTD development. I'll see that as well.
