a couple simple questions about psgml and docbook

  i've just started using psgml to create docbook files in xml,
and have a couple of (probably) simple questions.  [aside:  i'm
actually using psgmlx, an extended version that was hacked by
a colleague at duke university, so i'm hoping that the issues
still pertain to original psgml.]

  what i find handy is being able to use the C-c / sequence to
automatically add the closing tag to the innermost open element.
however, that feature has two problems that i can see:

1) i prefer to space/tab over to where i want to put the closing
   tag and have that tag placed exactly at that location.  for
   some tags, however (eg., screen), the closing tag is spaced or
   tabbed over from the location of the cursor.  not what i want.

2) in other cases, that feature just doesn't work.  eg., i can't
   try to terminate a <listitem>.  i get the error message
   "Can't end element here", so i have to put the closing tag in
   manually.  Why can't I end it there?  No reason that I can see.

i'm a real beginner at emacs, so is there a file that came with
psgml that defines the C-c / operation that i can examine to see
what it's doing and why?  thanks.
