I am sorry, I confused omittag (that's what I apparently really meant) with shorttag.

What I meant in my own words is the ability to leave out the end tag
and end the start tag with "/>".

And I think, that is possible with SGML and XML under certain circumstances.

No, actually it is XML (esp. OPML) -- I was convinced, that wouldn't matter.
Sorry for the confusion.

But the question remains:
how do I get psgml to proceed with proper indentation?
