I've just published two emacs packages that people on this list may like:

1] Three different ways to present 'cross-hairs' in a buffer to identify
   POINT (and give POINT's value in the echo area). This is derived from
   package 'crosshairs.el' by Drew Adams, with notable changes listed on
   the repository home page.

2] Highlight the cursor on buffer/window-switch. It flashes a square of
   positions immediately around POINT for a customizable interval. It is
   intended to assist in visually identifying the current POINT and the
   current window when many windows are on the same frame or when windows
   are very large.
