problem when saving pages using write-file

Sometimes I create a page by making a wiki link in a day-page, and
following the link. 

If I save the new page with save-buffer, it will get the ".muse"
extension. If I use write-file and save to a subdirectory, it will not
get the .muse extension.

How can this be solved?
