No more next/previous month button on calendars

When publishing calendars using planner-calendar I do not get the
default html entity for previous and next month buttons although the
following variables are set

 - planner-calendar-prev-month-button "&laquo;"
 - planner-calendar-next-month-button "&raquo;"

This worked until early April though.  Does this behavior has to do with the
latest release of planner-el or muse-el debian packages?
