Octave-mode in 25.1

After I upgraded to Emacs-25.1 Octave-mode doesn't work.  The Octave.el
file is there (at least two places), but I get a message:

command-execute: Cannot open load file: No such file or directory,  octave-mod

This is whether I open an octave file or execute "M-x octave-mode" from
the keyboard.  Things like java-mode and text-mode work OK.

Any thoughts what to try next?
