-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I'm beginning to explore DocBook, and I just found XAE 1.0beta8. It looks very promising: an Emacs mode with everything in one file that works out of the box. I installed it, read the UG, and created a simple DocBook file, as described. So far, I was very encouraged. Then it stopped: no word for a novice such as I on what to do next. I tried XAE > View Document > In XML Browser, and that worked nicely. I tried XAE > View Document > In HTML Browser, and I got ,---- | > apply_assoc_stylesheet file:///c:\Documents and Settings\Bill Harris\My Documents\Consulting\r+d\docbooktest\myfirstbook.xml c:/Documents and Settings/Bill Harris/My Documents/Consulting/r+d/docbooktest/myfirstbook.htmljavax.xml.transform.TransformerConfigurationException: XML parsing failure while looking for <?xml-stylesheet?> | no more input | javax.xml.transform.TransformerConfigurationException: XML parsing failure while looking for <?xml-stylesheet?> | at com.icl.saxon.TransformerFactoryImpl.getAssociatedStylesheet(TransformerFactoryImpl.java:259) | at xae.XSLTransformer.applyAssociatedStylesheet(XSLTransformer.java:133) | at xae.XMLToolServer.applyAssociatedStylesheet(XMLToolServer.java:143) | at xae.XMLToolServer.processCommand(XMLToolServer.java:94) | at xae.XMLToolServer.run(XMLToolServer.java:79) | at xae.XMLToolServer.main(XMLToolServer.java:59) | Command aborted. `---- Not so good. I tried XAE > Apply Stylesheet > Associated and kept the HTML option, and I got ,---- | apply_assoc_stylesheet file:///c:\Documents and Settings\Bill Harris\My Documents\Consulting\r+d\docbooktest\myfirstbook.xml c:/Documents and Settings/Bill Harris/My Documents/Consulting/r+d/docbooktest/myfirstbook.html | no more input | javax.xml.transform.TransformerConfigurationException: XML parsing failure while looking for <?xml-stylesheet?> | at com.icl.saxon.TransformerFactoryImpl.getAssociatedStylesheet(TransformerFactoryImpl.java:259) | at xae.XSLTransformer.applyAssociatedStylesheet(XSLTransformer.java:133) | at xae.XMLToolServer.applyAssociatedStylesheet(XMLToolServer.java:143) | at xae.XMLToolServer.processCommand(XMLToolServer.java:94) | at xae.XMLToolServer.run(XMLToolServer.java:79) | at xae.XMLToolServer.main(XMLToolServer.java:59) | Command aborted. `---- I then tried lots of things, including SGML > Validate, and it put Validate command: nsgmls -wxml -s filename.xml in the minibuffer. When I accepted that, it gave me an *sgml validation* buffer that said ,---- | cd c:/Documents and Settings/Bill Harris/My Documents/Consulting/r+d/docbooktest/ | nsgmls -wxml -s myfirstbook.xml | /usr/bin/bash: line 1: nsgmls: command not found | | SGML validation exited abnormally with code 127 at Sun Dec 12 00:23:13 `---- http://groups-beta.google.com/group/comp.text.xml/browse_thread/thread/773f8a31201ee92f/e9fe342101495f28?q=nsgmls+xae&_done=%2Fgroups%3Fq%3Dnsgmls+xae%26start%3D0%26scoring%3Dd%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff%26&_doneTitle=Back+to+Search&&d#e9fe342101495f28 indicated that I should perhaps not have spaces in file names; I don't like them, either, but XP sorta likes such spaces. Besides, I'm not sure not finding nsgmls is a fault of spaces, and the rest of my emacs stuff seems to coexist with spaces in file names. So, what do I do next? Do I need to install something else, or should it really be ready to run out of the box? I need to produce PDF and HTML, and I'd like to be able to produce Windows (HTML?) help and perhaps even TeX/LaTeX and RTF. I suspect there's an easy answer that I just haven't found.
