Fontifying problem in xemacs-21.4 (patch 13)

hello all,

i have been having this new problem with my xemacs 21.4 (patch 13). when i
load a file in some major mode, the fontifying takes ages. if i switch
desktops (i have multiple virtual desktops on my wmaker environment) on my
wmaker desktop and get back. the fontifying is done, but if i am in the
same desktop, the fontifying almost never seems to complete, even for
ridiculously small files!

any comments? any hacks/quickfixes appreciated.
