Good news. The culprit  is somewhere in my init file: 

I just run xemacs -vanilla and then gnuclient -nw and it worked as
expected, although I am not sure how to finish the process because the
function I am used to, when using gnuclient without "-nw", 

"C-x #" does not work in that case, so what should I do?

I do this maybe somebody can detect  from my init file the reason of this
misbehavior. If not I have to comment out parts of my init file and try
to localise the error, but due to my workload I can do this only next
weekend.
