Hrvoje, do you have any opinions about this?
Evidently the GNU and XEmacs specs for regexp-opt have diverged
perceptibly, causing problems for package maintainers. Ville proposes
a sync.

OK, so copy the old code, rename the old code to "old-regexp-opt", and
sync "regexp-opt" to GNU (except add a reference to `old-regexp-opt'
as an unsupported version with deprecated behavior to the docstring).
