Good to have you back, Ben.  I myself am curious about some things:

There have been reports about instability and slowness of the 21.5
code base.  I'm not sure if the people who complained about slowness
compiled with or without error checking, but we might want to address
these.

I myself have been away for quite a while.  Is there documentation on
what you have done, other than the mailing list archives and the
CHANGES-ben-mule file?

I'm interested in speeding up some string operations on largish
strings, but that may be unnecessary if the wide char strings will be
implemented.  What is the status of that?
