I agree with you on that it has to be done.  (More so since I've had
to hack and improve a large C++ codebase professionally, which has
confirmed my worst nightmares.)  But code improvement (or refactoring
is the current buzzword) often involves abstraction.  Designing proper
abstractions for large-scale stuff often is only possible when there
are enough examples.  And in these cases, I'm saying, they should be
in the code first.

Eric and Matthias have done a lot of hacking on this; I'm hoping that
they'll go the extra mile once their first wave is in.  (Hint, hint
...)
