I know, I've already patched a window-configuration-hook (thought I
sent another message about that) into my XEmacs.  

And it seems to be working for me (with specifiers), but I'll need to
add the run-hooks to a few more places (and add docs).

The bug I wrote about to beta, was annoying me, but turned out not to
be my fault.

I think so, but I'm not delving into Gnu core to be sure.  I just
calculate the index into window-list for the number.
