That's what I use in my testing scripts (on Linux and Mac OS X),
actually.  It's the only thing that works[1] if you've done
--with-prefix=no, among other things.

[1]  Well, I guess I could use trap in my scripts to ensure cleanup of
temporary symlinks, but that's over the top IMO.
