`font-latex.el' in AUCTeX uses it:

The "working around" in `font-latex.el' are conditionals like
(featurep 'xemacs) or (assq :inherit custom-face-attributes).

Gnus doesn't, AFAICS.

(Emacs uses it for headings in info mode which is quite nice.)
