DIagnostic messages... Where?

I've learned enough to write some really useful stuff (to me, anyway) in
emacs.
And, when compiling, I've learned to ignore certain messages that seem
harmless.

I've never been able to find:

1. What do these messages really mean (and I don't mean just the ones
below, but all the messages that come up during compile).
2. How to relate the messages to the corresponding lines?

I can't believe that anyone who put in the effort to make emacs so
efficient to use would have left it so difficult to create new function.
So, I must be missing something (I do have several GNU emacs manuals,
including the "bible" Reference).
Anyone have some good references they can provide?
