In XEmacs 20.4 "Emerald" [Lucid] (i686-pc-linux) of Thu May 20 1999 on filc0002
configured using `configure '--site-includes=-I/usr/intel/97r1.3/include -I/usr/intel/97r1.2/include -I/usr/intel/97r1.1/include -I/usr/intel/97r1/include' '--site-libraries=-L/usr/intel/97r1.3/lib -L/usr/intel/97r1.2/lib -L/usr/intel/97r1.1/lib -L/usr/intel/97r1/lib' --x-includes=/usr/intel/pkgs/X11/R6.4PL3/include --x-libraries=/usr/intel/pkgs/X11/R6.4PL3/lib --prefix=/usr/intel/97r1.3 --exec-prefix=/usr/intel/97r1.3 --with-gnu-make --with-xpm'

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

The problem is in Paren-Highlighting in Perl. When you want to use a
hash of hases the automatic highlighting fails and also the automatic
line indent. The editor does not recognize the second closing
paranthesis, e.g. : (this is with auto indention)
if () {
  ${$a{$b}}{$c} = 1;
print "";
}
also, if you stand on th '}' after the 'b', you will notice that
syntax highlighting shows it belongs to the '{' after the "if"
