Paren highlighting is light gray instead of selected color.

Hi.

I'm using XEmacs 21.4.14 under Debian GNU/Linux Unstable with GNOME 2.4
(xemacs21-gnome-mule package), and I'm having troubles with the
highlighting of parentheses. I have left the default light greenish
color setting alone, but somehow the parentheses are highlighted in
light gray.

Now that wouldn't be so much of a problem normally, but I'm using a
laptop with a pretty bright LCD display, so the highlighting is
practically invisible against the white background.

I have also tried out the non-GNOME version of XEmacs (xemacs21-mule
package) because I suspect it might have anything to do with GTK.
Indeed, there the highlighting is in the correct, greenish color.

Does anyone have any clues on what I could do to fix this? If you need
any more information, just ask. Or should I go to some GNOME/GTK or
Debian related newsgroup?
