No xemacs expert am I... (I mostly use fsf emacs).
The line "marker at 938 in *grep* 0x8ca542c" suggests to me that grep has
failed.
Have you confirmed that grep works independently? I had lots of problems
with cygwin grep and eventually switched to a really good grep I found
(grep32 7.11 Copyright 1986-2002 Oak Road Systems
http://oakroadsystems.com).
There was recently a fair bit of traffic re: shell commands not working
under xemacs -- and there was a patch mentioned a few days ago. Could that
be relevant?
