I can=E2=80=99t reproduce this with xemacs -vanilla. Are you sure the fon=
t you=E2=80=99re
using in Konsole respects the ISO-8859-1 encoding? If you go to
Einstellungen -> Schriftart -> Ausw=C3=A4hlen (Settings -> Font -> Select=
 if your
KDE is in English) and choose another Luxi Mono, do you get the same resu=
lt?

What exactly do the control characters look like? \337 for a sharp S, or =
M-_?
