We're both suggesting that the nonstandard internal stuff that is ending up there now be replaced with standard Unicodes. Aidan is just taking the ISO-2022-JP coding system seriously, and suggesting that you insert REPLACEMENT CHARACTER instead of whatever. I'm suggesting that we don't need to do that, since in the most recent Japanese standard there actually are characters there. REPLACEMENT CHARACTER is fine by me, I can always put the new characters in there later. Steve
