Hello !

Always discharge the monitor before messing with anything inside the HV b=
ox.  I would just replace the HV diode with a new one.  They run about $1=
0.00 from Mark Capps (big dog).  The HV diode is in-line with the wire go=
ing from the transformer to the CRT suction cup.  It's probably filled wi=
th goo and needs to be cleaned up really well.  Be sure the spring contac=
ts inside the holder are nice and clean too.  I've fixed a few of these m=
onitors with blooming problems just by replacing this diode.

PS - You should use an HV probe to discharge.  The screwdriver method ten=
ds to blow the diode.

Ok.  I have "blooming" then.  According tot he faq it says clean transist=

first.  Those should be clean as they are brand new.

The HV diode, that is....?

A failing HV diode will cause =91blooming=92 of your picture. Arcing with=
in the=20
high voltage rectifier
connectors causes this condition. To cure this problem, follow this=20
procedure:
1. Switch off AC power and remove the monitor from the game.
2. Remove H.V. cover secured by two screws.
3. Unplug the H.V. rectifier from its holders and inspect the holders to=20
insure that the springs
are inside the holder.
4. Replace the bad rectifier with a new rectifier. The leads of the=20
rectifier must be cut and
formed in the same manner as the original.
5. Insert the rectifier firmly in its holders, banded side toward CRT.
6. Inspect the lead dress of the transformer H.V. wire. Wire must be=20
dressed.
7. Inspect fuse F102 on main deflection PC board. The fuse value should b=
e=20
1.5 amp.
8. Replace the H.V. cover, which was removed in step No. 2.

So I don't have to discharge the monitor to do this?
