I'm not sure about swapping the HV unit over ( maybe you could compare the schematics of the two monitors and see if they use the same pinouts and voltages ?) As for the Halo in the middle of the screen... I had a similar problem on my asteroids so asked a while back on here.... I've not looked at it for a while, BUT was led to believe that the HV board may be at fault (so maybe you are on the right track here) and that I should re-cap it initially to see if it cured it... (the HV was measuring ok with a probe and the other voltages looked ok with a DVM - I wonder if they would be ok on a scope ?? ) I had also tried another deflection board with no luck. I could adjust the brighness and contrast to reduce the dot to a "glowing blob", but anyless made the game unplayable...I couldn't get rid of it fully either... mocked up picture here... http://uk.geocities.com/[email protected]/Astyblob.jpg Is this what you get when you adjust the brightess / contrast ?. It was also suggested that the glow was due to there being a burn in the phosphur in the middle of the screen, but I think that this was a symptom caused by the "bright dot in the middle" problem and not the cause ( burned out phosphur shouldn't glow brighter...it should be dimmer !! ) What I did notice however was that the glow was present during the game screen, but dissapeared (or may have just moved) when you came to the "enter your name" screen.... If you do manage to cure the fault by swapping or repairing the HV unit, please post back and let us all know.
