Extraneous: Not part of the lawful procedures of

West was supposed to hesitate for 10 seconds. She did. How are you going to interpret that as extraneous?

That would work. But no one at the table would have noticed a lack of hesitation, so I couldn't possibly have been called.

And of course no one is going to hesitate over the auction 1NT - P - 3NT. So I have to decide when a hesitation is appropriate over a skip bid and when it is not? Ugh.
