bridge reason for hesitation?

Declarer is playing 4 hearts.

He takes my opening lead with the ace in dummy.

Next he plays a heart from hand.

I wait for a while, giving partner the chance to accept or not, and 
reflecting whether it is good for me to accept. I have the jack 
singleton, with the queen fourth on the table. Thinkin it unlikely that 
he will finesse towards his ten, I decide to accept and play the jack, 
without any further mention.

At the end of the hand, declarer asks me, "why did you think with the 
singleton jack?". I reply "because you were actually on the table at the 
time, and I was considering whether to accept or not."

Nothing further happened, but it made me wondering:

Is thinking about accepting an irregularity a "valid birdge reson".
I think it is.
